Breakthrough Atlanta School Year Program Volunteers
Breakthrough Atlanta equips aspiring, economically-disadvantaged youth to become the first in their families to attend and graduate college. Our programs include a six-week summer school, as well as Saturday sessions throughout each school year that increase students' academic, social and college-readiness knowledge and skills.
Caring and consistent volunteers are needed to provide group mentoring and academic enrichment to seventh through ninth grade students. (Training and lesson plans are provided.) Because effective mentoring requires relationship-building, interested volunteers must be able to serve for a minimum of three sessions between October 2018 and March 2019.
In addition, interested volunteers must be at least 18 years old and able to pass a criminal history check. The cost of the criminal history check is $39 and is initially paid by the volunteer. Once volunteers have served for three sessions, then they are reimbursed for the cost of the criminal history check.
This opportunity is not suitable for one-time groups, youth volunteers or court-ordered volunteers.
