Life in the Garden @ TLW Farms

Truly Living Well (TLW) works to engage the community in developing local food systems and demonstrating urban agriculture as a sustainable solution for helping people to eat and live better. It is our mission to grow better communities by connecting people with the land through education and training. Check our website: www.trulylivingwell.com for updates on other projects.  Volunteers will be working together to complete farm tasks in order to keep the farm operating at peak level and its herbs and plants flourishing.

Tasks may include:

  • Fill produce beds with soil, plant seedlings, water, and weed.
  • Mulch designated areas with wood chips; ability to push 40 lb wheelbarrow 
  • Process, sift and stage compost.
  • May help harvest, weigh, and bundle produce for farmer's markets.
  • Light landscaping, cutting small trees and growth in detention pond area.
  • Assist with other farm projects as needed

Expectations during service:
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to serve by themselves. Volunteers as young as 12 can volunteer with parent. Court ordered volunteers are permitted to serve
(Please note: Individuals who have been convicted of or charged with any crime involving or relating to child abuse or neglect, child pornography, child abduction, or any other violent offense, including kidnapping, rape or any sexual offense, or who have ever been ordered by a court to receive psychiatric or psychological treatment in connection with such crime or crimes are NOT permitted to register on this site. ). This project site is not wheelchair accessible.

 

Please bring a reusable water bottle, wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, clothes that can get dirty and/or possibly muddy, hat/head covering to protect from constant exposure to sun and sunscreen. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a snack or light lunch.

Farmers may be in the greenhouse at the south end of farm and volunteers should enter at Westview entrance and meet at the shipping containers for sign in and for review of tasks. Our farmers and other staff are committed to providing a safe workspace and an attitude of productivity is important for projects/tasks to be completed successfully with mutual enjoyment. Farmers will be dressed in Green or Black attire

We promote environmental sustainability and recycling efforts by all in attendance.  We are a no-smoking farm and facility.  If you choose to smoke, we request you do so offsite.

Inclement Weather Advisory: 
Our farm staff is prepared to work during light rains and volunteers should wear rain jackets.  In the event of thunderstorm forecasts (50% or higher), this volunteer opportunity will be immediately canceled for the protection and safety of all.

Parking is allowed on Lawton Street and Westview Avenue.  Additional parking is available across Westview entrance at M. Agnes Jones Elementary School, a community partner.

The Collegetown farm site is also accessible via MARTA West End Transit Station:  routes #13 (Fair Street/Mozley Park) and #68 (Donnelly/Beecher) and arrive within two short-block walk to the farm.

Parking is allowed on site. Parking spaces may be limited so when possible, please back in vehicle or ask for assitance.

The East Point farm site is also accessible via MARTA East Point Transit Station: route #84 (Washington Rd/Stone Rd) and arrivew withing two short-block walk to the farm.

Truly Living Well is an official partner of the BeltLine. Official BeltLine Partner organization’s volunteer events occur within the 45 neighborhoods along the Atlanta BeltLine. Please keep in mind these events can take place anywhere within the 45 Atlanta BeltLine neighborhoods and are not typically along the trail, but meant to benefit the communities within the BeltLine corridor.
