Aluma Farm (MLK Day 2021)

Aluma Farm is a 3.8 acre urban farm in Southwest Atlanta along the Westside BeltLine trail. The farm grows and sells fresh fruits and vegetables year round for local residents to purchase.
Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Moving compost, turning compost pile
  • Mulching designated areas with wood chips; ability to push 40 lb wheelbarrow Broadforking
  • Raking
  • General Bed Prep
  • Hand Weeding
  • Assist with other farm projects as needed

Expectations during service: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to serve by themselves. Any volunteers that are 15 and under can only volunteer with a parent.

Please bring a reusable water bottle, wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, clothes that can get dirty and/or possibly muddy, hat/head covering to protect from constant exposure to sun, bug spray (deet free), and sunscreen. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a snack or light lunch. Our farm staff is prepared to work during light rains and volunteers should wear rain jackets. In the event of thunderstorm forecasts (50% or higher), this volunteer opportunity will be immediately canceled for the protection and safety of all. We promote environmental sustainability and recycling efforts by all in attendance. We are a non-smoking farm and facility. If you choose to smoke, we request you do so offsite.
Volunteering during covid-19: Please note that you are volunteering at your own risk. At each volunteer opportunity, we are practicing social distancing and we are allowing only 5 volunteers at a time until further notice. As we plan for and prepare for projects, we are keeping safety as a top priority and striving to follow CDC guidelines. We ask that if you have been sick, travelled, or been exposed to someone who has covid-19 in the last 14 days that you do not sign up for the project. If you are in a more at-risk demographic for covid-19 (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html) we would ask you to consider not volunteering at this time. If you are not comfortable being in groups of 10 individuals at this time, this opportunity is not for you. All projects will be set up so that you are 6 ft apart from other volunteers.
